MODEL SMC-R

DUAL CHANNEL STEPPING MOTOR
CONTROLLERS WITH OPTICALLY
ISOLATED 2AMP DRIVERS

FEATURES:

  • TWO INDEPENDENT MOTOR CONTROLLERS
  • OPTICALLY ISOLATED 2AMP DRIVERS
  • MANUAL OPERATING MODE
  • LOW POWER CONSUMPTION
  • SINGLE WIDTH "CAMAC" MODULE

APPLICATIONS:

  • PROVIDES CONTROL AND OPTICALLY ISOLATED DRIVERS FOR 2 MOTORS
  • EXCELLENT FOR DUAL X/Y DRIVERS

JOERGER ENTERPRISES, INC. MODEL SMC-R contains two independent stepping motor controllers and drivers packaged in a single width CAMAC module. The drivers are optically isolated, internally biased and can switch up to two amps at 28 volts. This module has been designed as a complete functional unit. Once the motor resistors are chosen that match the motor voltage and the supply voltage nothing more is required. Even the driver biasing is self-contained so using this module in stepping motor applications is quite simple. The module has a capacity of 15 bits plus direction which is loaded in 2’s complement. An interrupt system is provided to simplify system integration. There is a CW and CCW limit input for each channel and if a limit condition is received that motor will be stopped and if the module is enabled an interrupt will be generated. Once a limit condition is received, commands to drive in that direction will be ignored and a Q=0 response will be returned. The status of the module may be read out on command. This will indicate whether there is a CW or CCW limit for either channel, if either channel is at zero indicating a cycle is complete, whether the drivers are powered and if the module’s drivers are in the enable mode. This last feature is provided to lower the power dissipation in the module. When a channel is not active the driver is powered down. This feature may be removed by an internal jumper, which may be the case if the motor is needed to generate holding torque in the steady state mode.

SPECIFICATIONS: (for each channel)

OUTPUTS:
MOTOR DRIVERS Four-phase unipolar drive capability of switching 2 amps @ 28v. Drivers are optically isolated and internally biased to simplify external connections. Only 2 external resistors are required to drive one motor.
FREQUENCY RANGE 30 TO 500 cycles per second (internally adjustable). Other frequencies available, consult factory
INTERNAL MOTOR POWER +24 volts from the dataway is available to drive the motors. This is fused at 3 amps
CW, CCW OUTPUTS Two TTL signals to monitor both CW and CCW steps (motor steps on trailing edge)
INPUTS:
CW, CCW LIMIT Optically isolated input signals to indicate if the motor is at a limit condition. The limit condition is an open, insuring a broken wire will show as a failure
EXTERNAL POWER The motor can be driven from an external power supply
MANUAL CONTROL A switch is provided for each channel to operate the motors manually. This provides the ability to run the motors without the complete system operating

Reads status of module on "R" Lines 1-8
R1 CW Limit, Channel 0 R5 CCW Limit, Channel 1
R2 CCW Limit, Channel 0 R6 Counter = 0, Channel 1
R3 Counter = 0, Channel 0 R7 Drivers Not Powered

Tests LAM Flip-Flop
1015 Resets LAM Flip-Flop
160

*

Loads 2’s complement data from Write lines W1-16. Cycle begins at S2. Bit 16 is direction and if module is in a limit condition in the chosen direction the cycle will not begin and a Q=0 will be returned. Valid 16 also resets LAM
161

*

Same as above for channel 2
2415 Disables "L" response
2615 Enables "L" Response
Z(S2) Resets LAM flip-flop and active flip-flop (stopping cycle) and disables "L" response
X An X response is generated for all valid commands
Q A Q=1 is returned for F0, F16 if the cycle is capable of starting and in response to F8
L A LAM flip-flop is set if either channel has a limit input, CW or CCW. If there is a limit input an "L" signal will be generated if the module is enabled. This interrupt signal is disabled during "N"
CONNECTORS: AMP 552118-1, mating connector AMP 229974-1 or equiv.
TEMPERATURE RANGE: 0° C to 50° C
INDICATORS: "N" Module addressed

"ACTIVE" Channel active

"CW" CW Limit

"CCW" CCW Limit

"DRIVE POWER" Drivers are powered

"CTR=0" Counter = 0

SIZE: Single width CAMAC module
POWER REQUIREMENTS: +6v, 630ma
