The JOERGER ENTERPRISES, INC. MODEL ADC3216 is a high precision scanning ADC offering 16 bit resolution. It can accept up to 32 analog inputs and operate in two programmably selected modes. In the "CONTINUOUS" mode it scans the programmably selected active channels and loads the converted data into memory. In the "SINGLE SCAN" mode it is inactive until it receives a trigger either from the dataway or front panel at which time it scans all the active channels once and stops.

To insure 16 bit accuracy, great care was taken in selecting the analog components used and their layout. An instrumentation amplifier is used for accuracy, high input impedance and high common mode rejection. The high impedance eliminates variations in multiplexer impedance and input protection resistors. In addition, the analog supply voltages are generated from a tracking regulator for improved performance. A sample and hold amplifier has also been designed in as an option. The use of this sample and hold feature provides the ability to store the input signal level at the time a conversion is begun and hold it while the converter is active. Another option available is programmable gain of 1, 10, 100 and 1000. This provides the ability to match the converter to the signal level available. In high noise environments the ability to filter each input with a low pass filter is also available.

The module has been designed to provide both high accuracy and versatility. The module can select either a continuous scan or single scan mode. The number of active channels can be selected from 1 to 32 in either mode. As an added feature any one channel, from 0 to 31, can be selected and the module becomes a single channel unit monitoring the one channel selected. To insure proper performance in any mode, great care has been taken in regard to reading and writing the data memory. If a module completes a conversion while the memory is being read it delays loading the new data until the read signal is complete. This insures that no data is ever lost.
